Shad Lierley may be a newcomer to the mixed martial arts world, but he’s made quite a name for himself in collegiate wrestling. An international politics and economics major at his alma mater, New York University, Lierley was one of the nation’s top Division III wrestlers, winning the championship of the UAA, the top conference in the country. Lierley has also trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and kickboxing to prepare him for his leap into the IFL. Born in Utah, Lierley grew up in Alaska, where he also ran cross country and competed in track & field in high school, before concentrating on wrestling. An MMA fan since youth, Lierley identifies Dan Gable as his hero because Gable proved that working harder than everyone else can make you the best. It’s the attitude Lierley is taking into his first year as a Tiger Shark.
